AUS v SA Series 2025: Rabada Ruled Out | Can Proteas Handle The Heat?

August 19, 2025, Cairns. Experienced fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has been ruled out of the three-match One-Day International series against Australia, which is a serious setback to South Africa's goals of winning the ODI series.

An hour before the first game at Cazalys Stadium in Cairns, the decision was made after scans on Monday showed inflammation in his right ankle.

Who Will Replace Him?

Left-arm bowler Kwena Maphaka, who took the most wickets in the previous T20 series against Australia, has been named to the ODI team to cover for Rabada. Interestingly, he was left off the starting lineup for the first game of the series.

Australia claims the 3-match T20I series and, 3-match ODI series start from August 19

A highly anticipated white-ball rivalry is being carried on in the current ODI match. Australia won the T20 series 2-1, but South Africa came out on top thanks to strong individual performances throughout the tour, including some outstanding efforts from young players like Dewald Brevis.

The Australia vs South Africa 1st ODI match will be on August 19 at Cazaly's Stadium, Cairns.
